How the poll question generator works
Type a topic — "team lunch spot", "which feature to build next", "webinar topic for next month" — and the generator drafts a short set of poll questions with answer options included. Polls work best when they're quick, so it sticks to multiple choice and yes/no questions with clear, mutually exclusive options, and adds an "Other" choice when the list can't cover everything.
Remove any question you don't want, then either copy the list or hit "Create this poll in one click" to get a live, shareable poll built from your exact questions — answer options and all — in Fomr's editor, no account required.
What makes a good poll question?
- One clear question. A poll isn't a survey — it should take seconds to answer. If you need more than a few questions, you probably want a survey instead.
- Options that don't overlap. "Monday morning" and "early in the week" can't both be choices — respondents won't know which to pick.
- Cover the realistic answers. Aim for 3-6 options. Fewer feels restrictive; more becomes a chore to read. Add "Other" if you might be missing something.
- Neutral wording. "Which option do you prefer?" not "Wouldn't option A be better?"
Poll vs. survey: which one do you need?
A poll is one or a few quick questions with predefined answers, made for fast decisions: picking a time, a topic, a venue, a favorite. A survey digs deeper with mixed question types, ratings, and open-ended feedback. If you're deciding where to order lunch, a poll is perfect. If you're trying to understand why customers churn, you need a survey. Our guide on how to create a poll covers formats, sharing, and how to read the results.
Where to run your poll
Social media polls are easy but limited: few options, no branding, results locked inside the platform. Building your poll as a Fomr form gives you a link you can share anywhere — Slack, email, a QR code on a slide — plus your own design, an optional comment field, and results you can export. You can embed it on any website or show it as a popup, and responses are unlimited on the free plan.
