The good news: conditional logic, file uploads, multi-page forms, and unlimited entries are in every paid tier. WPForms doesn’t nickel-and-dime the basics.
The gating starts where the money is:
- Payments carry a 3% platform fee on Basic and Plus. Stripe, Square, and PayPal are technically available on every tier, but WPForms takes 3% of each transaction on top of processor fees until you buy Pro. Sell $10,000 through a Basic-tier form and you’ve paid WPForms $300 for the privilege.
- Zapier, Make, Google Sheets, surveys, signatures, save-and-resume, and conversational forms are all Pro. That’s $199.50 in year one and $399 every year after.
- Webhooks, Salesforce, HubSpot, and ActiveCampaign are Elite only. A webhook is a URL and a POST request. At WPForms it costs $599 a year at renewal.
That last group stings the most. The features that make a form part of an actual workflow sit at the top of the ladder, and the renewal doubling means the real comparison price for WPForms Pro is $399, not $199.50.

A quick word on migration, since it decides more switches than any feature list. Fluent Forms is the only tool here with a one-click migrator that pulls in your existing WPForms forms and their entries. Everywhere else, you rebuild the forms by hand and export old entries from WPForms as CSV for safekeeping. For a site with three forms that’s an afternoon. For an agency with forty client sites, it’s the whole decision.

The honest limitation: the builder shows you everything at once. Dozens of field types, global settings, integration feeds, all crowded into the WP admin. WPForms is genuinely friendlier for a first-time user, and if the person maintaining the site is a non-technical client, that polish has value.
2. Formidable Forms: the pick for calculations and data-heavy forms
Formidable Forms starts at $39.50 for the first year ($79 regular) on a single site, and every tier includes conditional logic, file uploads, repeaters, and unlimited entries. Its real specialty is what happens after submission: the Plus tier ($99.50 first year, $199 regular) adds Views, which turn submitted data into front-end tables, calendars, and charts. If your form is really a lightweight application (directories, calculators, booking-style workflows), nothing else on this list comes close.
The honest limitation: payments are gated at the Business tier, $199.50 in year one and $399 at renewal. That’s the exact same renewal number as WPForms Pro, so if payment collection is your main reason for leaving, Formidable moves the problem rather than solving it. 3. Gravity Forms: the developer’s choice, with familiar gating
Gravity Forms is the plugin your developer already knows. Basic is $59/yr for one site with no first-year discount games; the price you see is the price you renew at, which we respect. Conditional logic and file uploads are in every tier, the hook system is the best in the WordPress ecosystem, and the ecosystem of third-party add-ons is enormous.
But read the tier sheet before assuming it fixes your WPForms complaint. Stripe, Square, and PayPal need Pro at $159/yr. Surveys, polls, signatures, webhooks, and Salesforce need Elite at $259/yr. That’s the same shape as the ladder you’re trying to climb down from, just with fairer renewal pricing. There’s also no free version at all, so you can’t try before buying.

4. Ninja Forms: modular, which cuts both ways
Ninja Forms Core is free, runs on unlimited sites, and handles unlimited forms and submissions. Then the model flips: conditional logic, file uploads, multi-step forms, and layouts all live in paid memberships, starting with Plus at $59.40 first year ($99 regular) for 3 sites. Stripe needs Pro at $119.40 first year ($199 regular).
Notice what happened there. The two features WPForms includes in every paid tier, logic and uploads, are the paid gate at Ninja Forms. For a genuinely simple contact form the free Core plugin is fine and the 3-site Plus licence undercuts WPForms Plus. For anything richer, price the exact add-ons you need before assuming it’s cheaper, because it often isn’t.
5. Fomr: the not-a-plugin option
We’ll make our own case briefly, and only for the reader it fits: you want a form on your WordPress site, but you don’t need entries in the WP database, and you’re tired of paying annual licences for features that used to be table stakes.

Jotform is the strongest hosted alternative if payments are the priority. Every plan, including the free one, can take payments through 40+ gateways with no Jotform platform fee, and the free plan includes features WPForms reserves for Pro. The free tier allows 5 forms and 100 submissions a month; Bronze is $34/mo billed annually ($39 month-to-month) for 25 forms and 1,000 submissions.
The honest limitation is arithmetic. $34/mo is $408 a year, more than the WPForms Pro renewal you were trying to escape, and Jotform meters submissions where every WordPress plugin on this list stores unlimited entries. A busy month can bump you into an upgrade. It earns its place for teams that want zero plugin maintenance and payments on day one, not for budget switchers.
