Create multi-page forms

Multi-page forms break long forms into sections, making them easier to complete. This guide shows you how to create forms with multiple pages and navigation between them.

Benefits:

  • Less overwhelming for respondents
  • Better organization of questions
  • Ability to group related questions
  • Progress indication helps users know where they are

Best for:

  • Surveys with 10+ questions
  • Applications and registrations
  • Forms with distinct sections
  • Complex data collection

Before building, plan your page structure:

PageContentPurpose
Page 1Introduction/WelcomeSet expectations
Page 2Basic informationEasy questions first
Page 3Detailed questionsCore content
Page 4Final questionsWrap up
Thank YouConfirmationComplete the experience
  1. Log in to your Fomr dashboard

  2. Click New form

  3. You’ll start with a single page

Start with an introduction or simple questions:

  1. Add a Text component for a welcome message (optional)

  2. Add your first few questions

  3. Add Page Actions at the bottom

  4. The Page Actions will show a “Next” button

Example first page:

  • Welcome text explaining the form
  • Name field
  • Email field
  • Page Actions (Next button)
  1. Look for the Add Page button (usually a + icon near the page tabs)

  2. Click to add a new page

  3. The new page appears in the page navigation

For each new page:

  1. Select the page in the page navigation

  2. Add your questions for that section

  3. Add Page Actions at the bottom

  4. Page Actions automatically shows Previous/Next buttons

Example middle page:

  • Section header (Text component)
  • 3-5 related questions
  • Page Actions (Previous + Next buttons)

The last page before Thank You:

  1. Add your final questions

  2. Add Page Actions

  3. The submit button appears automatically on the last page

Example final page:

  • Final questions
  • Optional feedback field
  • Page Actions (Previous + Submit buttons)
  1. Add the Thank You component after your last page

  2. Customize the title and message

  3. Choose an icon and optional confetti

Page Actions automatically adjusts based on page position:

Page PositionButtons Shown
First pageNext only
Middle pagesPrevious + Next
Last pagePrevious + Submit
Page 1 → Page 2 → Page 3 → Page 4 → Thank You
[Next] [Prev][Next] [Prev][Next] [Prev][Submit]

For each Page Actions component:

  1. Click the Page Actions to select it

  2. Choose button alignment (Left, Center, Right, or Justify)

  3. Optionally add icons to buttons

  4. Justify alignment works well for Previous/Next pairs

  1. Click Preview

  2. Navigate through all pages

  3. Test the Previous button to ensure you can go back

  4. Verify required field validation works on each page

  5. Complete a test submission

Keep related questions on the same page:

  • Page 1: Personal information (name, email, phone)
  • Page 2: Professional information (company, role, industry)
  • Page 3: Preferences and interests
  • Page 4: Additional comments

Add Text components at the top of each page:

Page 2: "About Your Company"
Page 3: "Your Preferences"
Page 4: "Final Questions"
  • Avoid pages with just 1 question (feels slow)
  • Avoid pages with 10+ questions (overwhelming)
  • Aim for 3-5 questions per page

When users click Next:

  • Only the current page’s required fields are validated
  • Users can’t proceed until current page is complete
  • Errors are shown on the current page

When users click Submit:

  • All required fields across all pages are validated
  • If any page has errors, users are taken to that page

Currently, Fomr supports linear page flow (Page 1 → 2 → 3 → etc.). All respondents see all pages in order.

For forms where different users should see different questions, consider:

  • Using optional fields instead of separate pages
  • Creating separate forms for different user types
  • Using required fields strategically

  • Ensure Page Actions is added to each page
  • Check that you have multiple pages created
  • Verify Page Actions is on pages after the first
  • Previous button only appears on pages 2+
  • Check that required fields are properly marked
  • Test in Preview mode, not just the editor

Start simple. Begin with easy questions to build momentum.

Show progress. Users should feel they’re making progress.

Allow going back. Never trap users—let them review and edit.

Keep pages balanced. Similar effort per page feels fair.

Test thoroughly. Navigate forward and backward multiple times.
